Concrete Poetry
Concrete poetry can be referred to as ‘conceptual writing’ as well. It is an art and
design practice that language has been presented in its concrete form as text, type, words, and letters.
Task 1: The Shipping Forecast
The Shipping Forecast is a BBC Radio broadcast of weather reports and forecasts for the seas around the coasts of the British Isles. It is produced by the Met Office and broadcast by BBC Radio 4 four times per day.

For this task, I would be assigned one of the
locations referred to in the BBC’s Shipping Forecast, so I was assigned to do the location of the Thames. I used a combination of digital and/ or hand-crafted techniques, typographically arrange the words to shape/change their meaning. Consider slicing, cutting, slashing, shredding, scraping, folding, creasing, over-lapping, tearing, ripping, screwing, smashing, and/or crushing the text.
Task 2: Strategies — Cutting, sorting, filtering

For this task, I was asked to develop multiple
strategies for making concrete poems/
conceptual texts. My tutor will introduce you
to various digital and analogue strategies
involving AI and a chance for acquiring and
then filtering, sorting, and otherwise handling
the texts.
